Watch the 8-Stroke Roll Breakdown online guitar lesson by Ben Lacy from Two-Hand Groove Guitar
The beauty of the 8-stroke roll is that it is very usable - the "Swiss Army" drum roll.
I play it on the lower 3 strings to give it a deeper sound like the toms. I start with the right hand metronome 4 pattern on them, then add one extra thumb hit on the E. Then I play a left hand triplet to make up the full 8.
Get this one smooth and you can play it in any 4/4 song.
