Watch the Mixolydian Application online guitar lesson by Bruce Arnold from Total Modal

Mixolydian and Aeolian are very important modes to know. Mixolydian is our first mode that works over a dominant chord. A dominant chord is a very common chord found in blues progressions and may contemporary chord progressions. A C Mixolydian mode contains a major pentatonic mode (major pentatonic C,D,E,G,A) so it's common to play with both modes as you improvise.
When you use a Mixolydian mode over a 7th chord the 4th is the avoid note so listen for how it wants to resolve. You can also use a Mixolydian mode over a 7sus4 chord; when you do, there are no avoid notes.
STUDY TIP .....
Lets talk a little about committment. You should honestly assess your level of commitment to studying music. The old saying of "You reap what you sow" applies here. The more time and concentration you give something the more you will reap the benefits. That said, you can also put an amazing amount of energy into something but if you are being taught incorrectly you won't make the strides that you expected. I have met many students who have had this sad experience. Therefore, I will give you both a way to organize the scales you find in Total Modal and also give you a regimen to get the most musical benefit from your practice time. I have used these approaches for many years and have found that they work well for my students, many of whom have gone on to prosperous careers in music.
