Watch the Following the Bass online guitar lesson by Marcy Marxer from Swingin' Rhythm Handbook

Building a rhythm arrangement using a bass line that you like is fun and easy if you keep the basic principles in mind.

The root or 1 chord=major, 2=minor, 3=the 1 with the 3rd in the bass, 4=major, 5=the 7th, 6=minor, 7=diminished or the 5 with the 3rd in the bass, 8=1 major.

Use diminished chords as passing tones for the notes in between the scale tones.
