Blues has had a major influence on our modern pop- and rock music. Especially songwriters who write songs on/with their guitar have used harmonic, melodic and rhythmic elements to shape their songs. The harmonic elements used in a blues song can be incorporated in other styles and enhanced. The rawness of the blues can be mixed in with other more subtle elements to create contrast.
Because there are many blues 'flavors', ranging from Delta-style to Jump and Rockabilly, the amount of roughness and edgyness can be catered to the feel the composer likes for the song.
