In this section we'll take a look at how you can find inverted chords and create smooth bass lines or a pedal bass. When two adjacent chords in a progression share a note, you can use this to create a peadl bass. The upper tones of the chords (inverted or not) will change while the bass note remains the same. You can create a nice stepwise bass line up or down, by chosing the bass notes for each individual chord wisely.

A great way of studying these bass progressions is to look at compositions written by a piano player. They will often use inversions of chords in their songs, because they are easier to play on a piano.
