Watch the Muddy Waters Style: Open G online guitar lesson by Andy Aledort from Slide Guitar Power

This example began with a handful of slide licks that serve as a pickup to the main rhythm part, which is built from a conventionally-fretted single-note pattern that moves from the flatted seventh, F, to a minor-to-major-third shift on the fifth string (Bb to B). Be sure to allow some sympathetic ringing on the third through fifth strings during this part to thicken up the sound. I am also using hybrid picking throughout this part, occasionally picking two strings at once. For the slide licks that fall between the conventionally fretted licks, I keep the slide at a slight diagonal, which you will see in the footage of Delta blues legend Son House, especially on his seminal track, "Death Letter Blues."
