Watch the Open A Tuning online guitar lesson by Andy Aledort from Slide Guitar Power

To tune your guitar to an open A tuning, the sixth, fifth and first strings are tuned normally while the fourth, third and second strings are tuned up one whole step, resulting in this tuning (low to high): E A E A C# E. In open A tuning, barring across all of the strings at the third fret will sound a C chord, barring across all of the strings at the fifth fret will sound a D chord, barring across all of the strings at the seventh fret will sound an E chord, etc.
