One of your primary goals should be to learn and understand all of the standard scales for soloing within the tuning structure of open E (as well as all of the open tunings). The language of blues soloing often is constructed from a combination of minor and major pentatonic (five-tone) scales, so let's now get acquainted with E major pentatonic as played in the open E tuning incorporating the open strings. Again, fret conventionally first and then learn and practice the patterns using the slide.
