Watch the Funk: Technique 2 online guitar lesson by Robbie Calvo from RhythmCraft

I've created a cool funk single note riff out of the E minor pentatonic scale to play over our E7(#9) groove. It's a pretty simple idea using the single notes pedaled against the muted low E string. Check out the video to see what I mean. You may want to watch my right hand strumming technique too. I'm digging in pretty hard to make the notes spank a little bit. At the end of the riff I'm playing the F#7(#9) and B7(#5) as my turnaround again. This gives you the option, if you are the only guitarist, to play the riff and some chords together in the same pattern. Options and variations are always good!

To spice the riff up a bit I'm adding some double-stop ideas derived from an E7/E9 arpeggio. Check out the transcriptions for the exact phrasing and fingerings. Be careful not to overshoot the slides when playing the double-stop major sixths!
