Watch the Classic Rock: Technique 3 online guitar lesson by Robbie Calvo from RhythmCraft

A great overdub guitar part for the "Watchtower" groove we're working on involves arpeggiating triad chords on the 4th, 3rd and 2nd strings. You'll notice that I am sliding into the first chord (Ami) then I'm playing the same triad chord shape for the Gma and Fma chords. Also notice that I slide down to the F chord the second time round and let the notes sustain without going back to the G. It works really nice so I decided to leave the space. Of course you could add in the little Hendrixy licks in that space if you'd like!

Check out the video to see me play the Cmaj7 chord over the whole progression. It's a really tricky chord voicing but thought you guys would dig a challenge. I'm arpeggiating the notes with my pick and finding a rhythmic pattern that I like the sound of against the groove. This "pedal tone" approach reminds me of the Blue Oyster Cult song "Don't Fear The Reaper". Showing my age now but it's a classic and that's what this section is all about. Rock On!
