Watch the Blues: Technique 8 online guitar lesson by Robbie Calvo from RhythmCraft
As you well know, musical genres tend to cross over and share similar chord progressions. I wanted to give you an insight into how to approach a 12 bar blues using country guitar techniques and voicings.
The first thing you'll notice, is that the chords I'm using aren't all that different from the previous examples, it's how I've approached playing them stylistically that makes all the difference. I changed my sound by adding a touch more overdrive, added some compression and dug in a little harder with my fingers.
The right hand techniques are key here. I play with my fingers for this style and I have my finger nails professionally coated to harden them so that they don't break. A lot of country players use a combination of pick and fingers which sounds amazing too! Ultimately it's your choice and what feels comfortable to you. Experiment and who knows, you may even develop your own style!
There are a couple of nifty chord moves I've throw in here to spice things up a little but nothing you guys can't handle with a bit of focused practice.
