Watch the Maroon Tunes online guitar lesson by Robbie Calvo from The Rhythm Architect
For the 2nd guitar part I decided that a 'U2' type approach would work really well, so I timed my delay to the track tempo and turned up the number of repeats. Using a cleaner sound works well for this too and will stand out better if the tonality is different from the original guitar part.
My thought process as the Architect was to use notes I could find in position on the top three strings at 7th position. I know my E minor 7 chord resides there so I went about creating a simple repetitive motif that would work against the entire progression without moving. As you may well know, there are literally hundreds of phrases you could create this way and this is just one of them that I think works really well. The challenge is for you to orchestrate your own architectural designs.
