Watch the The Jones online guitar lesson by Robbie Calvo from The Rhythm Architect

Implying the sound of a pedal steel always sounds so good to me on these types of songs so I decided that the major tonalities could be further enhanced by implying the major 3rd with a double-stop bend on the A and D chords and then opted for a country-esque double-stop idea and single note run over the E chord.

You may have noticed that the pedal steel bends that I played are a little lazier than that of the more precise country style approach I often adopt. This was intentional, bending the notes a little flat or under pitch sounds more authentic to R&B to me. Try both and you decide which sounds best.
