Watch the The Roadmap: Dorian online guitar lesson by Robbie Calvo from Power Play: Minor

The chord progression that we’ll be playing over in this section is a Dorian progression and has a tonal center that resolves to the II minor chord (Dorian). We'll be improvising with the dorian mode/scale over this progression in 4 different keys and each key lasts for 8 bars.

Let’s check out the new chord progression first and make a note of the four key changes.

The 4 Dorian vamps you’ll be playing over, in order are:
G Dorian - A Dorian - B Dorian - C# Dorian. This complete sequence will cycle 4 times.

The Dorian mode/scale works beautifully over this Dorian vamp and you may want to really bring the flavor of Dorian out in your improvisations by targeting Dorian’s characteristic note, the major 6th. I’ll let you work out which note that is in each key.
