Watch the Playing In Position:Mixolydian Mode online guitar lesson by Robbie Calvo from Power Play: Dominant
My solo over this Mixolydian progression is a combination of the Mixolydian scale and chord arpeggios. Consider the arpeggios as fragments of the full scale and you’ll not be confused by this approach. Why do I use the arpeggios? The main reason is to outline the chord with chord tones or as I like to call them, sweet notes. These are going to be the strongest, sweetest and most resolute notes you can play.
I am also mixing in some chromaticism in true Calvo style - sorry, can’t help it, it has become an integral part of my style. Think of chromatic tones as connectors to the scale tones.
Let’s take a listen and see what happened in the studio.
