The Mixolydian mode is the fifth mode of the major scale and relates directly to the dominant chord built off the 5th degree of the major scale.
The chord progression I’ve created has a tonal center of the V7 chord so we will be using the 5th mode of the major scale, the Mixolydian mode to improvise over this progression.
The characteristic note of the Mixolydian mode is the b7. We’ll be targeting this note whenever possible to bring out the real flavor of this dominant mode and tonal center. Let's take a look at the roadmap, chord progression and scale shapes.
