Watch the Section 2: Blues Scale online guitar lesson by Robbie Calvo from Power Play: Dominant
In Section 2 we are going to be using all 5 shapes of the 6 note blues scale. As you all know, the blues scale is a minor pentatonic scale with an added b5 degree. The b5th gives us a nice chromatic note between the fourth and fifth, plus some nice tension if we want to hang on it before we resolve to a sweet note.
We’ll be playing our 8 bar solo lines in position first and then we'll branch out and flow through the shapes for each key change. It’s the same solo workout program as section 1, except now we are using the blues scale for our improvisations. We also have a new chord progression and 4 new key changes. You didn't think it would be that easy did you? We’ll be working over the new progression but there is no reason why you couldn’t play over the previous progression later if you’d like as well. In fact, you can use any of the backing tracks for any of the scales we use in the course, so you have a lot of tools and fun ways to expand your playing once you’ve worked through each section.
