Watch the Playing In Position:Mixolydian Mode online guitar lesson by Robbie Calvo from Power Play: Dominant

In the 3rd section of Power Play major edition you are going to be playing 4, 8 bar solos using the Mixolydian mode. As you know by now you'll be playing over a sequence of 4 key changes. In the next video segment you can see and hear me improvise through all four keys using the Mixolydian mode in position on the fretboard. Listen to my phrasing, dynamics and pace as I play each solo. Try to identify the scale shapes I'm using over each key/tonal center and count each 8 bar section if you need to in order to know where the changes occur.

This track has a slow 12/8 shuffle feel to it so you’ll have tons of time to express yourself. My advice would be to lay back and ease through the improvisations in a lazy blues approach, try saving fancy runs for the crescendo and end of each solo section.

Let's take a look at the Mixolydian sample solo in position.
