Watch the Beat 3 online guitar lesson by Robbie Calvo from Power Phrasing
Beat 3 is one of my favorite places to start a phrase. Why? Because it leaves plenty of space at the beginning of the bar to introduce the harmony and rhythm section before the melody starts. Starting on the 2nd and 3rd 8th note of beat 3 is also a great place to phrase a pick-up into a new section. Let’s check that out.
You’ll really have to concentrate on counting the beats and the subdivisions so don’t be surprised if you get lost from time to time. It’s not easy but it is really good for you and your phrasing chops.
