As you may well know by now, the minor pentatonic scale is derived from the major scale, which means we can use it creatively to target tonal centers as well as carve out those cool melodic and rhythmic motifs.
I'll be using the F#, B and C# minor pentatonics over this A major based Ionian rock track. The tonal center is the A major chord but we'll still use all three minor pents to give this modal track some sparkle and drive.
You know how to do the analysis by now. Lay out the 3 scales and the chords to see why this all works to make some great music.
A good formula for remembering where your options are is to just note the interval at which the root of the mInor pentatonic would reside over an Ionian progression - 2, 3 and 6 in this example.
