Watch the Lydian b7 online guitar lesson by Chris Buono from Modes That Matter
While some modes own a certain chord progression such as Aeolian’s grasp on i-bVII-bVI the same can be said for a single chord. Some chords just scream a certain mode and your ear just won’t accept any other application over it than the one mode or scale that just does the job right. Such is the case with the dom9#11 chord heard in this segment’s jam track where you have a modal vamp going from D9#11 to Amin7. The second my ear hears that chord, especially as it’s voiced here with that sweet sounding augmented triad up top, my hands just fall into my favorite Lydian b7 fingerings.
