Watch the Aeolian online guitar lesson by Chris Buono from Modes That Matter
In Phrygian we discovered some modes have absolutely undeniable chord movements such as the i/bII. When deciding on a mode to possibly play horizontally across a set of changes there’s no need to look further than Aeolian if you run into a i-bVII-bVI progression. While the bVII chord coming off a tonic minor chord could lead you to think Dorian might be the way to go, it’s the bVI that nails it for Aeolian to be the modal app of choice. Such is the case for the these next two segments where the i-bVII-bVI is riding high begging for Aeolian lickage.
