Watch the VI - IV - VI - I - V Aeolian online guitar lesson by Robbie Calvo from Modal Expose

This Aeolian solo example is a very simple melodic idea focusing on the tones of the VI chord, F# minor 7. I created this melody by singing it first. I heard it in my mind's ear, then found the notes on the guitar. This is a very powerful way to invent lines, licks and cool melodic phrases. Give that a try over this progression.

Lots of repeated ideas here, melodically and rhythmically. You'll notice that I also played a nice pedal tone intervallic idea from an F# minor 7 arpeggio and then another pedal tone idea derived from the Aeolian mode.

I think this is my favorite piece of music in the course as it really has a nice minor feel and mood to it. Another reason why we employ the modes to write and play music!
