Watch the Aeolian online guitar lesson by Robbie Calvo from Modal Expose

The A major scale from F# to F#

F# G# A B C# D E F#. The bold notes are the chord tones and arpeggio of an F# minor triad and an F# minor 7th chord.

We can play an F# minor 7th arpeggio in position from within the A major scale. The chord tones are strong and resolved in tonality against the chord backing track. Applying the A major scale now over the chord from F# to F# solidifies the unity between the chord, arpeggio and scale. You should be hearing this now as the tonal center of F# minor 7th. This is the F# aeolian mode.
