Watch the B Phrygian Soloing online guitar lesson by Robbie Calvo from The Modal Alchemist

In this solo I'm making sure I outline my B minor 7 (b13) chord with chord tones. The opening bend is to the 5th of the chord F#. I'm thinking Bmi7 arpeggios, C major 7 arpeggios etc. to play some nice lines in here too.

Check out the tab, notation and my breakdown of the approach to this Phrygian solo and then learn some of the licks I played. You'll notice that I start low on the fretboard and work my way up the neck to gain pace and variation in the solo. The reason I do this is twofold I want you guys to break the boxes you may be playing in and start connecting your scale, arpeggio and pentatonic shapes together for a seamless conversation. Also, it gives a solo a start, middle and ending which I think is really important.

Solos aren't just a bunch of notes played to fill space they are musical statements!
