You must work on vibrato consciously because it is a technique like any other on guitar. You had to work on hammer-ons, pull-offs, bends, barre chords, etc. Vibrato is no exception. So choose a note and slowly vibrato it, think about it as a little bend. Be sure to keep release the note back to the original pitch. One of the most common pitfalls is to vibrato sharp, don't do that! When using vibrato on a bent note, vibrato below the pitch.
