Watch the Eric Clapton online guitar lesson by Jeff McErlain from Kings of Tone

In the beginning of Clapton's career he was a Gibson guy, on the Bluesbreakers record he used a Les Paul to achieve his classic "Beano" tone. During Cream it was Gibson as well, most notably the Cherry 335 that was used on Crossroads, the "Fool" Gibson SG (the one with the crazy paint job) and Firebirds. In about 1970 Eric switched over to Stratocasters which have been his main guitars ever since. Personally, Clapton on a Gibson through a Marshall is one of the greatest tones ever.
