Watch the Dickey Betts online guitar lesson by Jeff McErlain from Kings of Tone
Dickey has a great lazy laid back feel. This takes a while to master but is a key element to his style. The musical term for that laid back feel is called playing behind the beat. It is difficult to explain on paper but we are literally playing the note slightly behind the beat. I think of it as relaxing the feel a bit, or think, just add water! Put on a metronome and play a scale using eighth notes, now play the scale again and think about what Dickey sounds like when he plays. This sort of visualization really helps me a lot when playing, try it!
