Watch the GoTo Licks: Make Your Licks Anything But Common online guitar lesson by Jeff Scheetz from Blues Jam Survival Guide
Taking a lick, slowly at first, then gradually getting it up to just shy of the speed of light is one thing. But then you want to move it to all of the other positions of that scale. So even a simple lick on two strings makes a really cool sounding lick if you follow these steps. Then of course you can duplicate it by moving it to other sets of strings as well! Then vary the picking, and add some hammer ons and pull offs. That is how you build your lick repertoire - by making small variations.
