Watch the Extreme Customization! online guitar lesson by Rob Garland from The Guitarist's Pentathlon

Some of the licks I played in the example involved working my way down the pentatonic scale moving through the customized tones such as the b5th and 6th. I played a lick out of Bbm pentatonic shape 5 including the b5th and looping it to sound angular and tense, never actually resolving. You see, there are no rules! Remember if it sounds good, it is good. Adding the major or natural 7th to traditional blues licks can also be effective and this is a good jam to experiment with using outside lines as well. Let it all hang out on this one!
