Watch the Replace b7th With 6th: Over A Blues online guitar lesson by Rob Garland from The Guitarist's Pentathlon

I incorporated the 6th into my blues licks. On an A7 chord, the I chord of the blues the note F# is the 6th/13th against the chord. On the IV chord, (D7) the note F# is the 3rd and on an E7 chord (the V chord) F# is the 9th, so the new note works as a chord tone and an extension on the chords of a blues. That's a bit of luck! Experiment using it all over the neck through all five shapes and then in different keys, because at that blues jam someone is bound to call a song in a key other than E, A or C!
