Watch the Add The Maj 3rd: Over Dom online guitar lesson by Rob Garland from The Guitarist's Pentathlon
Next up in the customization of the pentatonic scale is the addition of the major 3rd. The scale with added major 3rd becomes an ideal choice to use over dominant chords as they contain a major 3rd and a b7th. The PDF for the scale with added major 3rd contains different locations of the note-again these are not to be treated as scale patterns, which is why the fingering has more than one location for each extra note. Think about what the note is and where it falls on the fret board in relation to your familiar minor pentatonic shapes.
