Watch the Viewing As Relative Major online guitar lesson by Rob Garland from The Guitarist's Pentathlon
Here's an application where I explain how every minor pentatonic scale has a relative major and vice versa. The major pentatonic scale evokes a Southern/Classic Rock/Country type of sound and is very melodic. Notice how I'm playing the same notes but getting two distinctly different feels because of how I emphasize the root note of the scale, thinking in terms of either Bm or D major. I use the D major pentatonic scale to play over a classic/Southern rock style jam in the demonstration. Two scales for the price of one and a famous Motown riff as well!
