Watch the Add The b5th online guitar lesson by Rob Garland from The Guitarist's Pentathlon

The first additional note I want to look at is the b5th and when added to the minor pentatonic scale the pattern is sometimes called "the blues scale." This tone creates a lot of tension which is one reason it was referred to as the Devil's interval! The PDF for the scale with added b5th contains different locations of the note-these are not to be treated as scale patterns, which is why the fingering has more than one location for each extra note. Try to find the locations of the new note on your own by looking at the fret board. I suggest experimenting adding the b5th to familiar minor pentatonic fingerings and licks.
