Watch the F, G, AM, F Progression online guitar lesson by Brad Carlton from Guitar Lab: Vertical Soloing
This lesson takes the F, G, Am to F progression and demonstrates how to build rhythm guitar parts by playing fragments of the arpeggios you have learned up to this point. Any combination of the chord tones can be used and this gives you complete freedom over the harmonic texture. The next step is to add notes from each mode: F lydian, G mixolydian and A aeolian over these chord fragments. This will really open up your rhythm playing and it can also be used in a soloing situation as some voicings will hold up to a mild crunch, grind or overdrive sound. My goal is to whet your appetite to start studying the fingerboard on your own using the information you've learned in fifth position.
