Watch the F, G, AM, F Progression online guitar lesson by Brad Carlton from Guitar Lab: Vertical Soloing

We have covered the first three chord connections of our 8 bar progression. Measures 1 and 2 are F to G, measures 2 and 3 are G to Am and measures 3 and 4 are Am to F. That means you are ready to assemble these three building blocks into the four bar phrase which represents the first half of the entire progression. The challenge will be thinking ahead and not "bailing out" by just riffing in the A minor pentatonic scale. Take it slow and perhaps restrict yourself to two adjacent strings. I will demonstrate how to implement fast 3 note-per-string scale forms and yet still target chord tones. This is critical because it's easy to start shredding and lose all melodic connection with the prevailing harmony.
