In the previous lesson we looked at "super imposing" triads on top of each other; play a triad on a different bass note OR on top of another triad.

By going through all the possible triads in a key or even switching keys, you can get instant extensions. Harmonic suggestions in a backup part can be made by inserting colors to the background chords and the easiest way to do this is to add these alternative triads. Rhythmically and harmonically you can suggest grooves and melodies to the soloist by leaving spaces open or accenting certain beats. All these elements make playing backup as cool and as challenging as any type of soloing.
