Watch the 1 b3 3 4 #4 5 Move online guitar lesson by Brad Carlton from Guitar Lab: Riff Generator

This lesson focuses on the six following tones: 1 b3 3 4 #4 5. Diagram 12 shows the layout of these six tones on the entire fingerboard. You should view it three different ways: all six notes on the same string, or the 1 on one string and the b3 3 4 #4 5 on the next highest or lowest string. The intervals are as follows: 1 up to b3 is a minor third or 1 down to the b3 is a major six. The remaining five tones are chromatic, meaning they are all a minor second apart. You will learn various warm-ups which will enhance your left-hand technique while drilling through these tones. These include hammer ons, pull offs, legato slides, bends and releases. I suggest learning this formula in each of the three or four octaves that are available. This offers you the option of playing the same notes on different strings for tonal and/or technical reasons.

I will show you various ways of combining your left-hand techniques to create different riffs with the same six notes.
