In this lesson we will cover three voicings which utilize a root 5th ninth structure rooted off of the 5th string. The 2nd and 1st strings will be included as open strings thus affecting the harmony. Our first chord is an C#m9. Its formula is 1 2 5 b7 which would be a subset of the following scales: dorian, aeolian. The next chord is a D 6/9(no 3). Its formula is 1 2 5 6 which would be a subset of the following scales: ionian, dorian, mixolydian, aeolian, melodic minor. The final chord in this lesson is an Esus2. Its formula is 1 2 5 which would be a subset of the following scales: ionian, dorian, lydian, mixolydian, aeolian, melodic minor, overtone, mixolydian b6.
