Watch the Drop 2, 3 Voicings: online guitar lesson by Brad Carlton from Guitar Lab: The Golden Arp
Now we are going to examine some chords in which multiple voices have been dropped from the close voice forms. In this lesson, we will study the drop 2, 3 Add 9 chord in root position. It is derived from the 3rd inversion close voiced Add 9 chord. The middle two voices of this cord are then dropped one octave, and the remaining 4th voice is relocated (the 1st voice never moved). These root position drop 2, 3 voicings are rich in sound because the 2 is sandwiched between the root and 5th. Use your ears when playing in the lower registers as things can get a little cloudy.
