Watch the Drop 3 Voicings: online guitar lesson by Brad Carlton from Guitar Lab: The Golden Arp

This drop 3 voicing of the Add 9 chord in 2nd inversion is another basic form that guitarists should know. It is also sometimes labeled as a minor 7#5 chord. This name considers the 4th voice as the root. Functionally though, it is an add 9 chord with the 3rd in the bass. Frequently it is used as a connector between two different diatonic 7th chords. It is derived from the 1st inversion close voiced add 9 form. There are two layouts for this voicing on the fingerboard and various fingering options will be demonstrated in this lesson.
