Watch the Permutations of Root online guitar lesson by Brad Carlton from Guitar Lab: The Golden Arp
The concept of applying permutation to a group of notes provides a complete and thorough study of every possibility of note combination. This in and of itself is overwhelming but then when you factor in phrasing articulation, etc., it really gets huge. So proceed with caution and take it slow. There are literally many lifetimes of study revealed when applying permutation to your playing. This lesson begins with the root position forms of the add 9 arpeggio as applied to column one of the permutations chart. I'll demonstrate a few examples and hopefully you'll be inspired to incorporate these workouts into your own practice. I'll discuss the idea of targeting the destination tone of each permutation as well as different fingering options.
