Watch the One - Three Forms online guitar lesson by Brad Carlton from Guitar Lab: The Golden Arp
Our next form is very useful. It is the one-three form root position Add 9 arpeggio and it is presented in ex 14. Begin by placing your fingers lightly on each of the four notes in measure one. 3rd finger on the root, 12th fret 6th string; 1st finger on the 9(2), 9th fret 5th string; 2nd finger on the 3, 11th fret 5th string and finally 4th finger on the 5, 14th fret 5th string. By lightly touching all four notes, you will establish an arm, wrist and hand position that will eliminate any excess motion when you play the arpeggio.
Follow the video for various approaches as to how to pick and/or slur the notes in this arpeggio. Experiment with playing double-stop and pedal tone licks, and don't forget to incorporate drone open string for rhythm guitar textures.
