Watch the Major Scale Form II 8 online guitar lesson by Brad Carlton from Guitar Lab: Caging ii V I

This lesson gives some examples of a ii V I progression in the key of F which involve three note voicings with logical voice leading. The bassline is moving up in ascending fourths while the remaining voices form melodic lines. This is important to study because it will also serve you in creating melodies out of chord voicings. This can be especially useful when navigating through progressions in which the chords are only occurring for a couple of beats. You don't have time to think in terms of scales because that will give you too many notes and you probably won't be very melodic. But if you've been critically listening to well voiced ii V I progressions, you'll have an inventory of strong melodic moves which you can apply with confidence to various musical situations.
