Watch the Country Style Soloing online guitar lesson by Robbie Calvo from Guitar Interactives

Country music these days is more like classic rock from the 70’s and 80’s than the traditional country music of Hank Williams. We looked at a modern approach to Country rhythm playing in the rhythm guitar section which is very cool. I decided to use a different progression for the solo’s section that has elements of both traditional and modern country.

The great thing about playing Country style solo’s is that we have elements of Jazz, Blues, R&B, Rock and Pop that we can draw from to create our lines. Scales may include, Major and Minor Pentatonics, the Blues Scale, Mixolydian mode, Major Scale and chord arpeggio’s all delivered with seasonings of plucked strings, double stops, pedal steel bends for some extra twang and snap.

This is a great progression to work on outlining the chords with arpeggio’s and you heard me do that quite a bit during my solo.
