Watch the Tremolo online guitar lesson by Jeff McErlain from Guitar Effects Survival Guide

Tremolo is one of my favorite effects because it can be used subtly or as a full-on effect. A great example of tremolo used to its extreme is the guitar on "Money" by Pink Floyd and "How Soon Is Now?" by the Smiths. A great subtle use of tremolo to create a great vibe is Ry Cooder's "Feelin' Bad Blues" from the Crossroads soundtrack. There are so many recorded uses of tremolo, another one of my favorites is the swampy sound it gives to Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Born on a Bayou." For me tremolo is a must-have effect for any blues or rootsy guitar player.
