Watch the Rock Groove in A online guitar lesson by Brad Carlton from Groove Builder
Let's try another practice scheme. Solo as if you were two guitarists playing against each other, carrying on a musical conversation. One player will play low in register while the other one answers with high melodies. This will challenge you both melodically and rhythmically and also your ability to maintain musical continuity in your solo.
Our next approach is rhythmic restriction. I'll apply a dotted quarter note/eighth note figure as a rhythmic motif and I'll also use the entire A dorian mode but I'll lay it out on one string. I'll then limit myself to a prebend/release technique. Finally I will solo over the track and utilize all of the principles presented.
