Watch the E Funk online guitar lesson by Brad Carlton from Groove Builder
We'll be soloing over a straight sixteenth note funk groove over an E7 in section A and a C7 in section B. I'll show you how to use the blues scale over both chords by deleting the B note over the C7. Next we'll limit ourselves rhythmically by using a dotted quarter note figure which equals six sixteenth notes in the grid.
For a second pass over the track let's use the E and C mixolydian modes. Our restriction will now be using groups of four notes and developing our phrasing skills by using limitation on our melodic resources.
