Watch the C Shuffle online guitar lesson by Brad Carlton from Groove Builder

We go to our blues roots for this track. By viewing the blues scale according to the prevailing chord you'll get better results of sounding "locked in to the changes". This is really the modal approach as applied to the blues scale. For the V chord we'll use the V blues scale. Most importantly you'll see the effectiveness of "digging in" to get that great lone star state sound.

Part two of this lesson limits you to the first and second strings along with the playing of double-stops. By adding other notes from the major pentatonic scale you'll be able to sweeten up the sound at your discretion. Finally we'll apply dynamics to make your solo more interesting and vocal-like. Our final restriction will be quarter note triplets. This creates a floating type sound over the eighth note shuffle groove.
