Watch the Adding Melody To Finger Style online guitar lesson by Matthieu Brandt from Chord Cookbook

In the previous sections we used a pick to bring out melodies in the chord progression we're playing. Playing a melody on top of a chord and taking things like bass lines and smooth chord progressions into account can be quite challenging when you’re playing with a pick. Complex chords, large intervals between melody notes and a bass that moves all over the place will all make it difficult to create an arrangement and make smooth transitions. Playing fingerstyle will give you more subtlety in your accompaniment and this works well in folk, country and singer-songwriter material.
